Recopacks are made from all of those hard to recycle, colorful plastic bottles that you’ll find under your kitchen sink and laundry room- like bleach, household cleaning products, dishwashing and laundry detergent bottles. These bottles will never breakdown in a landfill even after 10,000 years, as they’re designed to be stronger than the chemistry that they hold.

Think of these HDPE #2 as miracle plastic, because that’s what it is- incredibly strong, flexible and resilient to mother nature. Image a few billion of these bottles packed into our landfills,  short term or long term, it’s just not good for the environment or for the long term health of our planet. We have a solution to use this waste as a new resource.

Each Recopack will last up to 400 round trip applications ( we have some that have reached 500 this summer) and when they’re old and worn out, we just grind them up into another Recopack. When you buy a new or used cardboard moving box it’s a triple negative. It’s bad for the ecology because you have to cut down a tree to make cardboard boxes. And the argument that for every tree cut down, “they” plant another tree which is a half truth and a whole lie. A young tree does not process and convert the same amount of CO2 into O2 compared to an old growth tree and if “they” wanted to correct the convertion problem, they would need to plant at least 12 young trees for every old growth tree that is cut down to make cardboard boxes.

Buying new or used cardboard boxes is bad for our environment because when you recycle a cardboard box- about 40% in reusable and 60% of the recycled material is either tossed in a landfill or burned and these emissions reduce our air quality and add excess carbon dioxides into our our atmosphere. The other environmental problem is that we are wasting additional valuable natural resources like drinkable water and petroleum to recycle and remake a less quality recycled cardboard box. This antiquated and inefficient recycling process releases even more contaminants into our environment. And when the price for gasoline is greater than $2.50 per gallon, it’s cheaper to export this waste or just dump it into a landfill and then, rush to cut down more virgin trees. We’ve been trapped in this vicious cycle of environmental destruction for over 2 centuries without a viable alternative to replacing the new or used cardboard moving box.

 

The other huge problem with buying a new or used cardboard boxes when you pack and move that I discovered is that it’s really bad for our economy. Basically what we’re doing is wasting a lot of time, natural resources and man power to make a limited life cycle disposable product. And then we spend even more time, natural resources and man power to recycle a product that is antiquated and not very efficient.

Corporations love the fact that they keep selling you a limited life span product that makes them tons of profit and is used my millions of people everyday without a solution. The new and used cardboard box makers, distributors and sellers have not had any competition in over 230 years.

Being complacent and apathetic is not the American way. Competition, better ideas, cheaper, faster and easier for the consumer is the foundation of our economy and we’re proud to have invented, designed, and craft our product right here in America!
