Good to be Green

Spencer Brown knows what it means to be green. When dumping $800 worth of cardboard boxes at a local landfill one day, he had what he calls an “ahhhaaa” moment. Upon seeing the piles of dumped plastic household detergent bottles, Brown decided, “I’ll take that plastic trash and convert it into a reusable, rentable moving box.”
Two years later, Brown’s Recopacks [ Recycled Ecological Packing Solution ] have become the country’s first zero-waste packing company. The reusable Recopacks rent for “a buck a box a week,” and there is now an entire line of eco-friendly recycled packing materials available. For every 100 Recopacks rented, the company removes over 500 pounds of trash, and prevents over 250 pounds of disposable packing materials from entering local landfills.
